Vaginal weights for stress incontinence are designed to help women who accidentally leak urine when they cough, sneeze, laugh etc (stress incontinence) This condition affects 1 in 3 women. Vaginal weights are simple to use, require only 20 min each day and are effective in strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. Expect less leakage in just 12 weeks.
The vaginal weights are simple to use and come with comprehensive instructions. Basically they are a little larger in shape then a tampon and have a small weight in side them (which you can make progressively heavier as your pelvic floor muscles get stronger). You insert the vaginal weight and continue with your normal activites for about 20 min a day. The pelvic floor muscles have to work to hold the weight in place and this strengthens the muscle. As the pelvic floor muscles get stronger your symptoms will improve.
Vaginal weights are not recommended for use during pregnancy but you can start using them 6 weeks after having your baby. If you are unsure, please see your Women's Health Physiotherapist who will recommend a program specifically addressing your needs.
