Breast Feeding and Bottle Feeding Positions

 

·         Choose a chair to give firm support to your spine, a lumbar roll behind your back will to support your back.

·         Sit straight so that your weight is supported evenly through your buttocks.  Do not slouch with round shoulders.

·         If your feet do not reach the floor use a small stool.

·         Use a breast feeding pillow  (supports) to bring baby up to your level, do not lean over baby or twist.

·         Try to feed on both sides every feed (even if you are bottle feeding) this will stop uneven pressures through your spine.

·         Use this time to touch, caress, talk and sing to baby (as long as it is not distracting to baby)

If you are breast feeding and having difficulty with your milk let down reflex, use a hot compress (see pain relief section for hot bods)
